Google Play integrates Venmo as digital payment option for US users
The move allows users to utilise Venmo wallets for games, subscriptions and creator tips, joining existing support for PayPal and major credit cards.

Google has officially introduced Venmo as a payment option on Google Play, effective today. The integration enables users in the United States to utilise their Venmo wallet, or linked bank accounts and cards, to settle costs for games, apps, add-ons, and other digital content.
According to the company, the feature covers a range of transactions, including subscription fees and tips for creators within content-based applications. Users can activate the service by linking their Venmo account through the payment methods section in their account settings.
This addition broadens the digital payment landscape already established on the platform. Google Play currently supports a suite of alternative payment methods in the United States, including PayPal and Cash App, alongside major credit cards such as American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and JCB.
The rollout occurs against a backdrop of robust global consumer spending on digital goods. Analytics firm Sensor Tower reports that user expenditure on apps and games across iOS and the Play Store exceeded $167 billion in 2025. This figure represents a 10.6 per cent increase year-on-year, highlighting the growing financial significance of the mobile ecosystem.
While the primary focus of this integration appears to be the US market, Google has previously experimented with alternative payment models in international regions. These trials included allowing users to complete digital purchases using cash at nearby physical stores, offering a bridge for markets with limited access to traditional digital wallets.
As the digital content market continues to expand, the inclusion of Venmo provides users with additional flexibility in managing their in-app transactions. The move underscores Google’s ongoing efforts to streamline payment processes and accommodate diverse consumer preferences within its platform.
