Google launches Gemini-powered AI health coach in rebranded Google Health app
The AI coach, available globally from May 19, costs $9.99 a month and synthesises data from multiple sources to offer personalised guidance.

Google has officially launched an AI-powered health coach service integrated into its newly rebranded Google Health app. Powered by the company's Gemini AI, the feature acts as a combination fitness coach, sleep expert and wellness advisor. The service is available globally from 19 May as part of the Google Health Premium subscription, which costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year.
The new coach is initially accessible to users of Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices, with support for other hardware expected soon. It utilises a detailed onboarding process where users input health goals, daily routines, available equipment, injuries and lifestyle factors to generate personalised guidance. Users can interact with the coach via natural language to update details or log workouts, meals and health records through voice dictation or file and photo uploads.
Insights provided by the coach synthesise data from multiple sources, including fitness and sleep metrics, environmental data, nutrition, cycle tracking and U.S. medical records if user access is granted. Specific features for cycle tracking, nutrition and mental well-being have been redesigned for this new coach, moving beyond simple summaries to combine information from these varied inputs.
The launch coincides with the release of the new Fitbit Air, a screenless modular tracker priced at $99, and the consolidation of the Fitbit app into Google Health. This move follows Google's 2021 acquisition of Fitbit to expand its presence in fitness wearables. The legacy Google Fit app is scheduled to be sunset by the end of 2026, while the rebranded application supports data syncing via Health Connect and Apple's HealthKit.
Existing Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers receive the Google Health Premium feature at no extra cost. The service is accessible via the Today tab within the Google Health app, with the AI-powered coach also being infused into other areas such as the Fitness tab's workout suggestions and the Sleep tab's tracking capabilities.
