Google brings more conversational features to Gmail, Docs and Keep
New tools allow natural language queries and voice dictation across core productivity apps

Google is introducing 'Live', a suite of conversational artificial intelligence features designed to operate directly within its Gmail, Docs, and Keep applications. The update expands the company’s AI offerings by allowing users to interact with their productivity tools using natural language and voice commands, moving beyond the general 'Ask Gemini' interface to embed functionality specifically within each app.

For Gmail, the new Live feature enables users to pose natural language questions to retrieve specific information from their inbox without manual searching. Google provided an example where a user could ask, "What's my flight's gate number?" to instantly locate relevant correspondence, aiming to reduce the friction of keyword-based searches.

Docs Live allows users to dictate initial ideas for a document, with the system subsequently organising those thoughts into a structured format. With user permission, the tool can enrich the document by pulling relevant details from the user’s Gmail and Drive data. Additionally, users can request that the system source relevant information from the internet to further support the content being drafted.

In Keep, the Live feature facilitates the dictation of reminders, which the system then curates and structures automatically. Google states that the tool is designed to understand spoken inputs and generate appropriate prompts and reminders based on the dictated content, streamlining the process of capturing and organising personal notes.

The rollout is scheduled for this summer, with full access available to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. A preview of the features will also be made available to Google Workspace business customers around the same time, marking a significant step in Google’s strategy to deepen AI integration across its enterprise and consumer software ecosystems.
