Short-term bridge deal secures 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs for Gemini Enterprise ahead of SpaceX IPO

Google has entered into a $30 billion agreement with SpaceX to secure access to computing power from xAI data centres. Under the terms of the deal, Google will pay $920 million monthly from October 2026 to June 2029 for access to 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs, alongside CPUs and memory. The arrangement is characterised as a short-term measure to meet surging demand for Gemini Enterprise, Google’s AI subscription service for large businesses.

The agreement was filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and includes specific performance clauses. If SpaceX fails to deliver access to the specified number of GPUs by September this year, Google retains the right to terminate the deal or accept reduced payment after a one-month grace period. A Google Cloud spokesperson described the contract as a "short-term, timely agreement" designed to provide "bridge capacity" while the company manages its own global data centre network.

This deal mirrors a separate contract SpaceX holds with Anthropic, which pays $1.25 billion monthly through May 2029 for access to xAI’s Colossus 1 data centre. Both agreements highlight the intensifying competition for high-performance computing resources in the artificial intelligence sector. SpaceX, which owns Elon Musk’s xAI, is leveraging its infrastructure to serve multiple major tech firms simultaneously.

The signing of this deal comes as SpaceX prepares for a highly anticipated initial public offering on June 12. The company aims to raise enough capital through the IPO to become the largest in history. The Google agreement adds significant visibility to SpaceX’s revenue streams and its role as a critical infrastructure provider for the AI industry.

While Google continues to build its own data centres, the reliance on external capacity underscores the scale of investment required to support enterprise AI workloads. The monthly payments to SpaceX represent a substantial financial commitment, reflecting the premium placed on immediate access to advanced semiconductor hardware. The deal remains in effect until June 2029, providing a defined period of capacity for Google’s enterprise clients.
