GOG adds original Metro titles to preservation program ahead of Metro 2039 launch
The original versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light are now available DRM-free on GOG, responding to long-standing player demand and preceding the upcoming Metro 2039 release.

Digital distribution platform GOG has expanded its game preservation initiative with the addition of the original versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light Complete Edition. The titles, which debuted in 2010 and 2013 respectively, are now available for purchase on the platform, marking a significant update for the survival shooter series developed by 4A Games.
While remastered editions of both games were released in 2014 and remain accessible to consumers, developer 4A Games confirmed that players had long requested access to the original iterations. The new releases address this demand by refining the software for contemporary hardware, ensuring compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems.
Technical enhancements include improved resolution support and optimised framerates, alongside expanded controller compatibility. These updates allow the games to run more smoothly on modern PCs without altering the core experience of the original releases. The titles are distributed DRM-free, consistent with GOG’s standard distribution model.
Pricing for the updated versions is set at $3.09 each, reflecting a 70 per cent discount. This promotional pricing is valid until May 28, offering a cost-effective entry point for new players interested in the series' history before the next instalment arrives.
The release of these original titles precedes the launch of Metro 2039, which 4A Games recently announced is scheduled to arrive this winter. This timing provides a clear chronological bridge for consumers, allowing them to engage with the foundational games of the franchise ahead of the new release.
