Georgia lands a quarterback for the 2027 class with strong SEC ties
Prospect joins 2027 recruiting class following missed opportunity with Peter Bourque

Georgia football has secured a commitment from four-star quarterback Colton Nussmeier for the 2027 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect from Ryan High School in Denton, Texas, formally announced his decision via his X account on 5 June 2026. Ranked as the nation’s No. 14 quarterback by the 247Sports Composite, Nussmeier selected Georgia over offers from UCLA and Arkansas.

The acquisition follows a period of uncertainty for the Bulldogs’ recruiting efforts, as Georgia previously missed out on four-star quarterback Peter Bourque, who committed to Virginia Tech. Nussmeier’s selection provides the program with a significant addition to its backfield depth, bringing a prospect who Andrew Ivins, director of scouting for 247Sports, described as a “towering southpaw with a big arm” and advanced field vision.

Nussmeier’s recruitment highlights strong familial ties to the Southeastern Conference. He is the son of Doug Nussmeier, a former offensive coordinator at Florida and Alabama, and the younger brother of Garret Nussmeier, a former two-year starter at LSU who was recently selected in the seventh round of the NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Doug Nussmeier currently serves as the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints, having previously held coaching roles with the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles.

The connection between the Nussmeier family and Georgia’s coaching staff runs deeper than general conference affiliation. Doug Nussmeier served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator from 2012 to 2013, a period during which Kirby Smart was the defensive coordinator at the same institution. Smart, now Georgia’s head coach, has maintained a long-standing presence within the SEC through his coaching career.

Nussmeier’s on-field performance prior to his commitment was marked by efficiency before a knee injury cut his junior season short. Playing for Flower Mound in Texas, he passed for 1,390 yards and 12 touchdowns with only one interception across eight games, completing 59.9 per cent of his passes. Upon joining the Bulldogs, he will enter a quarterback room that includes starter Gunner Stockton, along with redshirt sophomore Ryan Puglisi, redshirt freshmen Ryan Montgomery and Hezekiah Millender, and true freshman Bryson Beaver.
