Gauff advances at US Open as Fritz, Keys and Anisimova exit

Coco Gauff reached the US Open fourth round with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Cristina Bucsa, keeping the host nation’s hopes alive in the women’s singles draw.
The 2023 champion, who was not at her best against the world No 40, recovered from a break down and secured her place in the last 16. She will face the winner of Iva Jovic’s match against Alexandra Eala for a place in the quarter-finals.
Taylor Fritz’s men’s singles campaign ended after he surrendered a two-set lead against Federico Cerundolo. The ninth seed, who was runner-up at the tournament two years ago, lost 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Madison Keys, the 2017 runner-up, also fell after Qinwen Zheng overturned an early deficit to win 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Amanda Anisimova lost 6-2, 7-5 to Austria’s Anastasia Potapova.
The United States is still seeking its first men’s singles champion since Andy Roddick won the title in 2003. Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Alex Michelsen remain in the men’s draw, according to Sky Sports.
