Fox Sports assessment puts Caleb Williams’ potential at top of NFL quarterback market
Henry McKenna’s subjective Week 2 review highlights Williams and Trevor Lawrence while questioning Drake Maye’s response to complex defensive schemes.
Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna has placed Caleb Williams’ projected ceiling at the top of his Week 2 assessment of NFL quarterbacks, writing that the Chicago quarterback looked capable of soon becoming “the best QB on the planet”. McKenna made a similar projection for Trevor Lawrence.
The “QB Stock Market” is a week-to-week review of performance fluctuations, rather than a definitive league ranking. McKenna said no quarterback was permanently secure at either end of the list, with only one week available for evaluation.
Drake Maye was among the biggest subjects of the assessment after throwing three interceptions against the Seattle Seahawks, including the pass that sealed New England’s loss. McKenna described the mistakes as serious errors and questioned whether Maye can consistently handle complicated defensive schemes.
McKenna compared Maye’s difficulties with Seattle’s disguises and blitzes to Josh Allen’s earlier struggles against Bill Belichick’s New England defences. He wrote that Allen eventually broke through that pattern, while it remains unclear whether Maye will follow the same trajectory.
Other performances noted by McKenna included Tyler Shough leading the NFL in passing, Jordan Love throwing for 387 yards in a loss and Jaxson Dart helping the Giants defeat the Cowboys. Patrick Mahomes recorded a 2.27-second average time to release on Monday night among quarterbacks with at least five dropbacks.
