Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted to hospital as precaution
Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to a hospital by ambulance from the tunnel area shortly before Manchester United's Premier League match against Liverpool, though no emergency was reported.

Sir Alex Ferguson, the 84-year-old former manager of Manchester United, was taken to a hospital by ambulance from the tunnel area at Old Trafford after falling unwell shortly before the club's Premier League match against Liverpool. Sources close to the incident stressed that the admission was a precautionary measure rather than an emergency situation, although club officials did not provide specific details regarding his condition immediately following the move.
The former boss, who managed United for 27 years between 1986 and 2013, was last seen with guests in the directors' box approximately two hours before kick-off before being removed from the stadium. Consultant cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra confirmed on X that he had spent time with Ferguson ahead of the fixture, describing the meeting as a privilege and an honour before the former manager was transported away.
Ferguson's medical history is well documented, having suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018 which left him seriously ill. He publicly discussed his recovery three years later, but no further updates on his current health have been released since his recent admission. While the specific cause of his sudden unwellness remains undisclosed, club officials have characterised the event as a necessary precaution to ensure his safety.
Following Manchester United's 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, head coach Michael Carrick addressed the situation, expressing optimism for Ferguson's recovery. Carrick, who was signed by Ferguson from Tottenham in 2006 and enjoyed significant trophy success as a player under the Scot, noted that there were no latest updates on the former manager's condition.
Carrick stated that he wished Ferguson all the best and hoped that hearing about the result would provide a positive boost to the former manager. The club remains hopeful that Ferguson will soon be fit enough to return home, though it is currently unclear when, or if, he will resume watching matches from the directors' box or return to the stadium in any capacity.
