Florida State enters race for Illinois offensive tackle prospect
The Seminoles have extended a scholarship offer to four-star recruit Wyatt VanBoening, who is now attracting interest from 20 major programmes.
Florida State University has officially entered the recruitment of Wyatt VanBoening, a four-star offensive tackle projected for the 2028 class. The Seminoles extended a scholarship offer to the prospect, who announced the development on social media on Thursday morning.
VanBoening, who stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 280 pounds, is currently ranked No. 80 nationally and No. 11 at his position according to 247Sports composite rankings. He is also listed as the No. 7 player in the state of Illinois.
The recruit’s profile has gained significant momentum since the beginning of the year, with his offer list now standing at 20 programmes. Other major schools in the mix include Notre Dame, Auburn, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Indiana.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, VanBoening expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity. “I am excited to receive an offer from Florida State University! Thank you, @FSUFootball, for this opportunity!” he said.
Beyond his football abilities, VanBoening is a competitive track and field athlete. He competed in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw at the Region 7 Junior Olympics in June 2024. In April of that year, he recorded a shot put rep of 50-1 and a discus throw of 158-2.25.
The Florida State offer marks a significant step in the 2028 recruiting cycle, positioning the Seminoles as a serious contender for a prospect who combines elite size with multi-sport athletic capability.
