CBS Sports has released an analysis identifying five rookies from the 2026 NFL Draft as possessing the ideal schematic fits for their new franchises. The report suggests that while some players possess natural talent that transcends systems, these five selections represent a perfect marriage of ability and situation, positioning them to flourish immediately upon arrival.
Quarterback Mendoza is highlighted as a near-perfect match for the Seattle Seahawks under new head coach Klint Kubiak. The analysis indicates that Mendoza's strengths in intermediate throwing and play-action align closely with the Shanahan-style offence Kubiak intends to run. Data shows Mendoza completed 153 of 184 passes for 2,142 yards when throwing over the middle, while also excelling on play-action with 94 completions for 1,039 yards and just one interception.
On the defensive side, linebacker Reese is noted for his versatility within the New York Giants' system. The report states he is expected to play multiple roles alongside star edges Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, allowing him to operate both inside and on the edge. This flexibility is designed to exploit weaknesses in the Giants' interior defensive line by forcing opponents into difficult matchups through various angles.
Safety Downs is described as fitting the Dallas Cowboys' defensive philosophy under coordinator Christian Parker. The analysis notes his ability to play interchangeable roles in a Vic Fangio-style defence, shifting between box safety, free safety, and slot cornerback depending on the alignment. Edge rusher Bain has been identified as a strong fit for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under head coach Todd Bowles. Although concerns regarding his arm length, measured at 30 7/8 inches at the combine, were a factor in his draft slide, the aggressive and moving defensive front employed by Bowles is expected to mitigate these issues. The scheme allows Bain to rush from various angles and attack from the inside, utilising his power to overwhelm offensive linemen rather than relying on a static pass rush.
Finally, receiver Concepcion is cited as an ideal addition to the Cleveland Browns' offence under Todd Monken.
