ESPN reports Baker Mayfield has agreed to US$165m Buccaneers extension

Baker Mayfield has reportedly agreed to a three-year, US$165 million contract extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN and NFL Network sources. The deal would keep the quarterback with Tampa Bay through the 2029 campaign and average US$55 million a season.
The agreement has not been formally confirmed by the Buccaneers or Mayfield in the supplied material. Details of its guarantees, signing bonus and other conditions have also not been provided.
Negotiations reportedly resumed over the weekend after breaking off shortly before training camp. Tampa Bay had previously made a reported two-year, US$50 million offer, which Mayfield and his agent, Tom Wills, considered insufficient.
The reported extension would surpass Mayfield’s previous three-year, US$100 million contract as the largest deal in Buccaneers history. Owner Joel Glazer said the agreement reflected the club’s belief in Mayfield’s leadership on and off the field.
Mayfield’s case for a longer commitment follows two NFC South division titles and a 2023 playoff victory. He also reportedly set career highs in 2024 with 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns.
