Prospect expert Kiley McDaniel evaluates offers from nine MLB clubs ahead of the 2026 deadline

ESPN MLB analysts have published nine hypothetical trade proposals for Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal ahead of the 2026 trade deadline. The exercise, evaluated by prospect analyst Kiley McDaniel, features offers from the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

McDaniel categorised the offers ranging from "underwater" packages to "wild overpays," identifying the Chicago Cubs' and San Diego Padres' bids as the most realistic and competitive. The context implies Skubal is on an expiring contract with no likelihood of re-signing with Detroit.

The Oakland Athletics' proposal, featuring Luis Severino, Jamie Arnold, Devin Taylor, and Lawrence Butler, was dismissed by McDaniel as having negative value due to the heavy contract burden. Similarly, the New York Yankees' offer of Spencer Jones, Carlos Lagrange, and Elmer Rodriguez was deemed insufficient despite the high pedigree of the prospects involved.

The Tampa Bay Rays offered Santiago Suarez, Brody Hopkins, and Michael Forret, a package McDaniel described as smart but ultimately outbid by other clubs. The Milwaukee Brewers' bid of Luis Lara, Andrew Fischer, and Coleman Crow was viewed as strong on paper but lacking the top-tier prospect required to secure a deal.

The Chicago Cubs' offer of Pedro Ramirez, Kevin Alcantara, and Jaxon Wiggins was highlighted as a tier above the rest. McDaniel noted that Ramirez is a top-100 prospect and the package could conceivably be the Cubs' real-life offer. The Pittsburgh Pirates' proposal of Jared Jones, Jhostynxon Garcia, and a draft pick was also considered realistic if the club decides to be aggressive.

The Toronto Blue Jays presented a "wild overpay" involving JoJo Parker and Johnny King. While McDaniel expressed excitement over Parker's potential, he noted the prospects are not immediately ready for the majors. The San Diego Padres' package, including Ethan Salas, Kruz Schoolcraft, Bryan Balzer, and Jeremiah Estrada in exchange for Skubal and Spencer Torkelson, was deemed highly unlikely but potentially irresistible to Detroit.

The Los Angeles Dodgers' proposal, featuring Emmet Sheehan, Zyhir Hope, and Aidan West, was described as the best of the "wild overpays." However, McDaniel cautioned that the deal is unlikely due to the Dodgers' limited pick and bonus capital under the collective bargaining agreement.
