Myst and Riven remakes, the return of Bubsy and other new indie games worth checking out
New titles and updates from Engadget’s latest gaming digest

Engadget has published a roundup of new and upcoming indie games, highlighting several releases and updates. Key titles include Fail Fail Succeed, a puzzle platformer based on the developer’s mental health experiences, and the remakes of Myst and Riven, now available on PS5 and PS VR2. Bubsy 4D marks the series’ first 3D entry since 2019. The roundup also featured other upcoming or recently released titles such as the first-person shooter Ferra, co-op heist game Thick as Thieves, stop-motion style adventure Phonopolis, and roguelite Dark Scrolls. Additionally, demos for Warhammer Survivors and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 were made available, alongside trailers for Mouseward and Kidbash: Super Legend.

Fail Fail Succeed, developed by Martin Zetterman, landed on Steam last week for $10. The game is a puzzle platformer where players must sacrifice their character to clear paths, with the character transforming into blocks upon death. Zetterman based the title on his experiences with mental health cycles, aiming to turn failure into progress. The narrative is inspired by the developer’s dog, Eira, who reportedly helped him through difficult times.

The remakes of Myst and Riven have finally arrived on PlayStation platforms. Cyan Worlds released the Myst remake on Meta Quest, PC, Mac, Xbox, and iOS in previous years, but the PS5 and PS VR2 versions are now available. The Riven remake launched on PS5, PS VR2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Both PS5 Pro versions offer enhanced view distance, foliage, textures, and shading. Myst is priced at $35, with a 20 percent discount for PlayStation Plus members until May 26, while Riven is also $35 with a limited-time discount.

Bubsy 4D, developed by Fabraz and published by Atari, was released this week across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. Priced at $20, it features a 10 percent launch discount on GOG. The game sees the return of the bobcat character in his first 3D appearance in 30 years, with new mechanics such as rolling into a ball to move faster. Players assist Bubsy in recovering a Golden Fleece from technologically enhanced sheep.

Other notable titles include Ferra, a first-person shooter set in a futuristic Japan where players can morph into a kitsune form. Thick as Thieves, a co-op heist game, shifted from a competitive multiplayer vision to a solo and two-player co-op experience after development pivots. Phonopolis, a puzzle adventure with a stop-motion aesthetic, is available on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store for $25. Dark Scrolls, a roguelite action platformer, has moved its release date to June 22 for Steam and Switch.

Demos for Warhammer Survivors and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 were released this week. Warhammer Survivors, developed by Auroch Digital, is coming to mobile, PC, and consoles later this year. Trailers were also shown for Mouseward, a Soulslike collectathon platformer from Finite Reflection Studios, and Kidbash: Super Legend, a roguelike action platformer expected to launch in early 2027.
