2026 College Football Odds: Early Spreads, Lines For Season’s 20 Biggest Games
SPORTS

As the 2026 college football season approaches, sportsbooks have released early odds and spreads for 20 of the biggest games on the schedule. These initial lines provide a baseline for marquee matchups that will determine conference standings and College Football Playoff positioning, even though kickoff remains months away for many of the fixtures.

The early numbers reflect current preseason rankings and recent performance, with significant implications for the major conferences. Oregon is listed as a heavy favourite against Michigan, carrying a 13.5-point spread for their 14 November meeting. This follows Oregon’s 38-17 victory in Ann Arbor in 2024, when they were ranked No. 1 in the country.

In the Big Ten, Michigan opens as a 6.5-point favourite against Penn State for their 17 October clash at the Big House. The Wolverines defeated the Nittany Lions 24-15 in their last meeting, a result that informs the current market positioning for this mid-season rivalry.

The Big 12 sees Texas Tech as a 13.5-point favourite against Houston on 19 September. Texas Tech enters the season as the heavy conference favourite following a 12-2 campaign, while Houston is expected to take a significant step forward after entering the year ranked.

In the SEC, Georgia is a 4.5-point favourite against Ole Miss for their 7 November rematch. This contest revisits last season’s playoff quarterfinal, where Ole Miss shocked the Bulldogs in New Orleans. Most key players from that game are expected to return, making this early-November fixture crucial for a loaded conference race.

Defending national champions USC face a challenging road trip to Indiana on 14 November, where the Hoosiers are favoured by 10 points. This matchup highlights the uncertainty in the market, as many analysts believe USC is poised to take a next step, yet they have yet to secure a win in a hostile Big Ten road environment in recent seasons.

While these lines are subject to fluctuation as the season progresses, they offer an early indication of how the betting market views the competitive balance among the sport’s top programmes.
