Dyson slashes prices on vacuums and hair tools for Prime Day
The Gen5Detect and Spot+Scrub AI are among the key items reduced, offering a rare entry point into the premium brand’s ecosystem.
Dyson is participating in Amazon’s annual Prime Day sales event, offering reduced prices on a selection of its premium vacuum cleaners and hair styling tools. The discount range includes the Gen5Detect stick vacuum, which has seen a price drop following the release of newer cordless models this month, and the Spot+Scrub AI robot vacuum, Dyson’s first device that combines vacuuming and mopping functions. Other featured items include the Car+Boat handheld vacuum, the Ball Animal 3 Extra upright vacuum, the Airwrap i.d. hair styler, and the Airstrait hair straightener.
While Dyson products are typically positioned at high price points due to their proprietary air power technology, these discounts provide a notable opportunity for consumers. The Gen5Detect, previously the brand's flagship vacuum, is now available for $660. It retains powerful suction and HEPA filtration, making it particularly effective for removing pet hair from carpets, even as it has been superseded by newer cordless models.
The Spot+Scrub AI robot vacuum is priced at $850 and represents a functional shift for the brand’s automated cleaning line. As Dyson’s first device to vacuum and mop simultaneously, it addresses hard floors and carpets effectively. However, user experience with its artificial intelligence capabilities has been mixed, with some reviewers noting they were not fully impressed by the system’s ability to automatically detect when to scrub floors.
For consumers seeking a lower entry point into the Dyson ecosystem, the Car+Boat handheld vacuum offers a compact alternative. Despite lacking the long tube of standard cordless models, it maintains significant power, making it suitable for apartments, homes with multiple levels, or vehicle interiors. Meanwhile, the Ball Animal 3 Extra upright vacuum caters to buyers preferring traditional designs, offering additional attachments compared to the standard version.
In the beauty segment, the Airwrap i.d. hair styler is available for straight and wavy hair, though the version with a diffuser for curly and coily hair is excluded from the sale. The Airstrait hair straightener is also discounted, promising to dry and straighten hair without heated plates. While it avoids heat damage, it requires a learning curve due to its downward air flow and may not suit all hair types.
