Doncic secures sixth All-NBA First Team selection amid Lakers surge
The Dallas Mavericks veteran, now with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaged 33.5 points per game to claim his second scoring title, despite a season curtailed by injury.

Luka Doncic has been named to the All-NBA First Team for the 2025-26 season, marking the sixth time in his eight-year career he has received the honour. The selection was announced by the NBA on Sunday following a vote by a global media panel of 100 voters. Doncic was chosen alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, Nikola Jokic, and Cade Cunningham to form the inaugural Kia All-NBA Team.
The recognition signals a sharp turnaround for the guard, who was not selected for any All-NBA teams during the 2024-25 campaign. That previous season, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists but was recovering from a calf strain sustained on Christmas Day. His absence from the honours list was the first such omission since his rookie year, despite a statistical output that remained high.
During the 2025-26 season, Doncic elevated his performance significantly, averaging 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. These figures secured his second NBA scoring title and saw him finish fourth in the voting for the Most Valuable Player award. He was also named Western Conference Player of the Month twice, underscoring his consistent dominance throughout the regular season.
The selection comes after a high-profile trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in early February. Doncic was a key driver in the Lakers' late-season surge, where the team won 16 of their final 18 games. However, his individual campaign was cut short by a Grade 2 hamstring strain sustained on April 2, limiting his availability for the closing stages of the schedule.
In a contrasting development, veteran LeBron James was excluded from all All-NBA teams. James played only 60 regular-season games, falling short of the 65-game eligibility threshold required for postseason individual honours. Meanwhile, Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was named to the All-NBA Second Team, finishing sixth in the overall voting with 384 points after averaging a career-high 28.7 points.
