Dodgers pivot to Skubal as Glasnow injury deepens rotation crisis
With Tyler Glasnow sidelined and Blake Snell recovering from surgery, ESPN reports the Dodgers are serious contenders for Tarik Skubal to bolster their championship pursuit.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are positioning themselves as primary contenders for Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal at the upcoming trade deadline, following a significant setback for starter Tyler Glasnow. ESPN reporter Buster Olney identified Los Angeles as a serious suitor for the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, alongside the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies. The potential acquisition comes as the Dodgers seek to stabilise a starting rotation that has been severely compromised by injuries.
Glasnow was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Saturday, marking a further complication for a staff already dealing with multiple absences. The right-hander has been sidelined since May 8, when a back spasm emerged just two days after a scheduled outing. Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Glasnow has not yet been cleared to resume a throwing program, effectively ending his season and removing a key component from the Dodgers' rotation plans.
The injury landscape for Los Angeles is further exacerbated by the absence of Blake Snell, who is currently recovering from elbow surgery. With both Glasnow and Snell unavailable, the Dodgers face a critical need for starting pitching depth as they pursue a third consecutive World Series title. The team is expected to be aggressive in the market to fill the void left by these injuries.
Skubal, who underwent elbow surgery on May 6, has demonstrated a rapid recovery timeline that has drawn attention from sports analysts. He made his first rehab appearance with the High-A West Michigan Whitecaps one month and one day post-surgery, pitching five scoreless innings with six strikeouts against the Dayton Dragons. This accelerated return has prompted discussion regarding potential advancements in medical protocols for bone-chip injuries, although the standard recovery period for such procedures is typically longer.
Skubal is currently under contract for $32 million and is expected to command a significant payday in the upcoming offseason. The Dodgers, who already feature elite arms such as Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, are viewed as a logical destination for the pitcher. A rotation combining Skubal with the existing star power would provide the team with a dominant lineup capable of sustaining their championship ambitions through the postseason.
