Disney D23: VisionQuest Trailer and Avengers: Doomsday Footage Lead Anaheim Announcements

Disney commenced its D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, with a slate of major announcements across its Marvel and Star Wars divisions. The event opened with the release of the first trailer for the Marvel series VisionQuest, starring Paul Bettany and James Spader. Attendees also received a teaser for the second season of Star Wars: Ahsoka, public footage for Avengers: Doomsday, and an exclusive sneak peek of Star Wars: Starfighter, which stars Ryan Gosling.

VisionQuest serves as the conclusion to the trilogy begun with WandaVision and Agatha All Along. The series follows Vision, who has been in hiding after escaping those who sought to weaponise him. In the new trailer, Vision confronts AI personas embedded in his programming, including Ultron, while evading a bounty hunter. The plot involves Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son or reincarnate. The cast also features Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepard, Todd Stashwick as bounty hunter Paradin, and T’Nia Miller as Jocasta. VisionQuest is scheduled to debut on Disney+ on October 14, 2026.

Marvel Studios also released special footage for Avengers: Doomsday, previously shown exclusively to San Diego Comic-Con attendees. The film, set 14 months after the events of Thunderbolts*, brings heroes from Earth-616, Earth-828, and the original X-Men universe into conflict. The footage highlights Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Victor von Doom, with Vanessa Kirby’s character describing him as broken after losing everything. The film is set for theatrical release on December 18, 2026.

In Star Wars news, the second season of Ahsoka will premiere on January 20, 2027. The season continues the journey of Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren as they navigate a perilous world to find their way home, while their allies face Grand Admiral Thrawn. Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and Lars Mikkelson return, alongside Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. Additionally, attendees viewed exclusive footage of Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy. The film, starring Ryan Gosling, is set five or six years after The Rise of Skywalker and will hit cinemas on May 28, 2027.

Marvel provided casting details for the upcoming X-Men reboot, directed by Jake Schreier and slated for a 2028 release. Sadie Sink plays a young Jean Grey, joining Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Adam Driver appears as Mister Sinister. The event also featured a trailer for the animated special LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, a comedic retelling of the live-action series, arriving on Disney+ on September 2, 2026.
