Diggins leads Chicago Sky past Connecticut Sun to end losing streak
Chicago Sky defeat Connecticut Sun 85-80, marking first win in five games as Skylar Diggins establishes early impact in new contract.

The Chicago Sky have ended a five-game losing streak with an 85-80 victory over the Connecticut Sun, driven by a 24-point performance from Skylar Diggins. The win, secured on Friday night, marks a significant shift in momentum for the franchise as it navigates a transitional period following roster changes earlier in the season.
Diggins, a seven-time WNBA All-Star and former Notre Dame standout, scored 18 of her points in the first half to establish an early advantage. She finished with three rebounds and four assists, including a critical three-point play with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter that extended Chicago’s lead to 80-77. She subsequently converted late free throws to secure the five-point margin.
This result represents Diggins’ first season with the Sky after signing a two-year contract in April. Her performance has been instrumental in stabilising the team, as she currently averages 14.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game. The victory follows the Sky’s trade of Angel Reese to the Atlanta Hawks during the offseason, positioning Diggins as a central figure in the team’s new configuration.
The win halts a difficult run for Chicago, which had struggled to find consistency prior to Friday’s match. Diggins maintained control of the game’s tempo, responding to Connecticut’s attempts to pull away by driving to the rim and drawing fouls. Her ability to dictate play in crunch time mirrored her previous successes, providing a familiar stabilising presence for the franchise.
The victory offers a positive start for the Sky as they integrate new dynamics into their lineup. Diggins’ efficient scoring and playmaking have provided the necessary foundation for the team to compete at a high level, setting the stage for future fixtures as they look to build on this momentum.
