Cruzeiro trigger buy clause, keep striker until 2028
Colombian forward triggers buy clause after meeting performance targets

Cruzeiro has officially completed the permanent signing of Colombian forward Luis Sinisterra from English club Bournemouth. The Minas Gerais-based club confirmed that the player, who had been on loan since mid-2025, triggered a buy clause by meeting specific performance targets outlined in the initial agreement. The new contract secures Sinisterra’s services until the end of 2028.

The financial structure of the deal reflects a two-stage commitment from the Brazilian institution. Cruzeiro initially paid a loan fee of 2.5 million euros, approximately R$16 million, to secure the player’s temporary move. With the buy clause activated, the club is now obligated to pay a permanent transfer fee of 3.5 million euros, or roughly R$22 million. This final amount will be settled in installments, adding a layer of financial management to the acquisition.

Sporting director Artur Jorge has publicly endorsed the decision, citing Sinisterra’s technical and physical development during his tenure at the club. The coach highlighted the forward’s improvement in training environments as a key factor in the institutional approval of the permanent transfer. Sinisterra has contributed two goals in 10 matches for Cruzeiro during the 2026 season, providing tangible output to justify the expenditure.

However, the club’s medical department remains cautious regarding the player’s physical durability. Sinisterra has suffered four muscle injuries since arriving at Cruzeiro, including a recent absence of nearly two months due to swelling in his right thigh sustained in a match against Mirassol. This history mirrors his time in England, where he recorded six different physical issues across three seasons with Bournemouth.

The permanent retention of Sinisterra represents a significant administrative and sporting decision for Cruzeiro. By converting the loan into a permanent deal, the club has committed substantial resources to a player with a documented injury record. The installments for the 3.5 million euro fee will require careful financial oversight as the institution balances squad depth with fiscal responsibility.
