Cowboys secure Quinnen Williams in $105.9 million extension
The Dallas Cowboys have finalised a three-year contract extension with Quinnen Williams, cementing his status as one of the league’s highest-paid defensive linemen and reinforcing the team’s strategy of securing Pro Bowl talent early.
The Dallas Cowboys and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams have agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $105.9 million, sources confirmed to ESPN and the NFL Network on Monday. The agreement secures Williams’ services through the 2030 season and includes $101 million in guaranteed money, comprising $63.35 million guaranteed at signing and a $31.85 million signing bonus.
At an average of $35.3 million per season, the deal ranks as the second-highest annual average for a defensive tackle in the National Football League. Williams, 28, joins an exclusive group of linemen with annual averages exceeding $30 million, alongside Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Carter, Tennessee Titans’ Jeffery Simmons, and Kansas City Chiefs’ Chris Jones.
The extension follows a strategic pattern by the Cowboys to lock in core Pro Bowl players ahead of their prime years. This approach mirrors recent agreements with guard Tyler Smith, kicker Brandon Aubrey, tight end Jake Ferguson, cornerback DaRon Bland, and fullback Hunter Luepke. Executive vice president Stephen Jones indicated that the organisation aimed to finalise the deal at the start of training camp, a process accelerated when Williams’ agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports, attended practice on Saturday.
Jones cited Williams’ work ethic and leadership as pivotal factors in the negotiation. He highlighted Williams’ role in revitalising the defensive culture alongside Kenny Clark and Rashan Gary, noting that the team lacked significant leadership on that side of the ball in previous years. Jones described Williams as one of the hardest-working players on the practice field, emphasising his consistent performance and professional conduct.
Williams was acquired from the New York Jets at last year’s trade deadline in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. He had previously signed a four-year, $96 million extension with the Jets in 2023. In seven games with Dallas last season, Williams recorded 20 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 33 quarterback pressures, two tackles for loss, and a pass breakup.
The move contrasts with the Cowboys’ handling of Osa Odighizuwa, who signed a four-year, $80 million deal in March 2025 before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers after the front office determined he was not a fit for defensive coordinator Christian Parker’s scheme. Williams, a four-time Pro Bowl selection and 2022 first-team All-Pro, brings a career total of 342 tackles and 41.5 sacks to the Dallas roster.
