CopilotKit raises $27M to help devs deploy app-native AI agents
Seattle startup raises capital to expand self-hostable enterprise toolkit and team growth

CopilotKit, a Seattle-based startup, has raised $27 million in a Series A funding round to expand its capabilities in deploying artificial intelligence agents directly within applications. The capital injection is led by Glilot Capital, NFX, and SignalFire, with the proceeds designated for team growth and the acceleration of the company's enterprise toolkit.

The company's strategy focuses on moving beyond clunky, text-based chatbots by enabling AI agents to live inside software interfaces. This approach allows agents to understand user context, take actions, and generate dynamic, interactive user interfaces rather than simply returning blocks of text. The funding will support the development of self-hostable offerings, specifically a new product called CopilotKit Enterprise Intelligence, designed for enterprise clients who require greater control over their AI infrastructure.

Central to CopilotKit's value proposition is its open-source AG-UI protocol, which standardises how AI agents connect to user interfaces. The protocol provides features such as streaming chat, front-end tool calls, and state sharing, facilitating human-in-the-loop functionality. This standard has gained significant traction, with support from major infrastructure providers including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle, as well as frameworks like LangChain, Mastra, PydanticAI, and Agno.

Adoption of the protocol and the company's tools has been robust, with CopilotKit reporting millions of weekly installs. The firm notes significant usage among Fortune 500 companies, with enterprise customers including Deutsche Telekom, Docusign, Cisco, and S&P Global already utilising the technology in production environments.

CEO Atai Barkai indicated that the company currently employs approximately 25 staff members and intends to use the new funding to scale the team. The new capital will also help refine the enterprise toolkit, which offers developers full control over how AI agents interact with the user interface, allowing for everything from pixel-perfect designs to broad building blocks generated by the AI.

In the competitive landscape of enterprise AI tools, CopilotKit differentiates itself by offering a horizontal, enterprise-friendly approach that prioritises optionality and self-hosting capabilities. Unlike vertically integrated platforms, the startup supports existing agent frameworks and cloud providers, addressing a key requirement for businesses that already utilise stacks from major providers. The company maintains that its commercial product complements the open-source stack, aiming to be the default choice in the ecosystem while monetising support for top-tier enterprises.
