Club prioritises home-grown players to meet UEFA squad regulations amid complex transfer negotiations

Como FC is actively restructuring its squad to satisfy UEFA Champions League home-grown player regulations, a move that has placed a premium on Italian-developed talent. The club’s recruitment strategy is currently centred on securing players who can fill registration slots while maintaining competitive standards, though budgetary constraints remain a significant factor in these negotiations.

Reports indicate that Como has expressed interest in Inter Milan defender Tarik Muharemovic, who was previously viewed by Inter as a potential replacement for Alessandro Bastoni. However, Inter Milan has cooled its interest in the player, and the transfer fee is considered prohibitive for Como. If the price tag remains too steep, Muharemovic’s potential destinations are largely limited to Premier League clubs or Juventus, the latter benefiting from a 50 per cent discount on any resale fee due to a specific clause in his contract.

In a separate development, reports from TuttoSport suggest that Como and Napoli have been offered Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa. Chiesa appears ready to end his difficult period at Anfield, with the Reds potentially willing to accept approximately €15 million for the player. The valuation is driven by high salary demands that do not align with Liverpool’s current financial standards, making a departure plausible for the Italian forward.

The club is also expected to finalise a move for Lazio fullback Luca Pellegrini, a transaction described as more straightforward than other pursuits. Pellegrini is set to leave Lazio as the club transitions its defensive options, planning to utilise Nuno Tavares and new signing Alfonso Pedraza in the fullback position. Several other Serie A sides are monitoring the situation, but Como is positioned to secure the player’s services.

Beyond established Serie A figures, Como is closely monitoring Real Madrid’s Nico Paz, whose future remains undecided. Paz has reportedly indicated a willingness to stay at Real Madrid for another season, pending the decision of manager José Mourinho. The club’s interest in the Spanish capital extends to other Real Madrid Castilla players, including Gonzalo Garcia, Thiago Pitarch, and Cesar Palacios. Garcia, who scored eight goals in 39 games last season in a part-time role, is among those being considered as the club looks to expand its roster of young talent.

While the club is not operating with an unlimited budget, it is reportedly evaluating player valuations to determine the worth of each acquisition. The emphasis on Italian players is viewed by some observers as a necessary compliance measure rather than a purely aesthetic choice, though the club aims to integrate these players into prominent roles within the squad.
