Como advance Chalobah pursuit as Inter Milan pivot to Spence
With Inter Milan withdrawing from the race for Trevoh Chalobah, Como are working to bridge the gap between their €28m offer and Chelsea’s €35m valuation, while monitoring Davinson Sanchez as a contingency.
Como are in advanced negotiations to secure the services of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, following Inter Milan’s decision to cease efforts in the transfer saga. The withdrawal by the Nerazzurri removes a significant competitor, allowing the Serie A club to focus on meeting Chelsea’s financial demands, which stand at a €35m valuation for the English centre-back.
Inter Milan had engaged in preliminary discussions with Chalobah’s entourage but never submitted a formal proposal. In contrast, Como have made two distinct offers that were rejected by the London club. The initial bid comprised €25m plus €2m in add-ons, followed by a second proposal of €28m with similar bonus structures. Reports indicate that while the parties are not yet at an agreement, the gap between the offers and the club’s asking price is narrowing.
The shift in transfer strategy at Inter Milan reflects a broader restructuring of their defensive options. The club has abandoned plans to sign a new centre-back, opting instead to consider retaining Benjamin Pavard. This decision comes despite previous disagreements between Pavard, the coaching staff, and other players, requiring reconciliation efforts within the squad. Inter have described their approach as surgical, noting that defensive reinforcement is not their primary priority at this stage.
Concurrently, Inter Milan are directing their attention toward the right wing, with a specific focus on signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence. This preference is strongly endorsed by sporting director Christian Chivu, who views Spence as a superior option to other available targets. The move signals a clear pivot in Inter’s recruitment policy, moving away from central defence to address width in attack.
For Como, the situation presents both an opportunity and a challenge. The club requires a dependable, muscular, and ready-made defensive contributor to strengthen their backline. While Chalobah’s consistent playing time during the 2025/2026 season, which included 47 appearances, has increased his market value, the club is also monitoring Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez as an alternative target should negotiations with Chelsea stall.
