China Yuchai International lifts full-year sales target on AI data centre demand
Strong performance in heavy-duty truck engines and a pivot to power generation for artificial intelligence facilities drive earnings, while the company plans a Hong Kong listing for its genset subsidiary.

China Yuchai International Limited has reported a 13.9 per cent increase in revenue for the second quarter of 2026, driven by a 10.9 per cent rise in engine unit sales and an expansion of its gross profit margin to 17.1 per cent from 14.3 per cent in the prior year period. The company sold approximately 1,800 engines for artificial intelligence data centres in the first half of 2026, prompting management to raise its full-year sales target for this segment to 3,500 units or more.
Heavy-duty truck engines led the growth in unit sales, recording a 47.3 per cent increase. The MTU Yuchai joint venture contributed significantly to profitability, with its profit rising 56.2 per cent due to robust demand for high-horsepower engines in the marine and power generation sectors. Management noted that the joint venture maintains a gross profit margin exceeding 30 per cent, although net profit growth was tempered by pricing pressures and original equipment manufacturer discounts.
To meet the escalating demand for high-horsepower engines, production capacity has been expanded to 5,000 units through a combination of internal process optimisation and external subcontracting of initial machining processes. This dual strategy of outsourcing and internal investment in fine-machining equipment is being evaluated for further capacity expansion in 2027 to sustain growth trajectories.
Strategic moves to strengthen supply chain resilience included the acquisition of a 27.97 per cent stake and control of Nanyue Fuel Injection Systems (NYDK) in March 2026. The financial results of NYDK were consolidated starting April 1, 2026. Additionally, the company announced plans to pursue an initial public offering for its genset power subsidiary on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to unlock resources for accelerated growth while retaining control.
The company’s balance sheet remains robust, with cash and bank balances reaching approximately USD 1.2 billion. This liquidity supports a dividend increase to USD 0.87 per share for 2025. R&D efforts are progressing on a breakthrough high-pressure direct injection engine capable of operating entirely on ammonia, while gas engines are undergoing certification for the North American market. Fuel cell development continues for mobile applications, though management clarified there are no short-term plans for fuel-cell-based power generation.
