Chiefs offensive coordinator’s wife hospitalised after Virginia home shooting
The Kansas City Chiefs have acknowledged a violent incident involving the family of their offensive coordinator, as police in Virginia investigate a shooting that left Mia Bieniemy with serious injuries.
Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalised with serious injuries following a shooting at the couple’s residence in Ashburn, Virginia, on Sunday evening. The incident has drawn attention to the safety of NFL staff families, though police in Loudoun County have not yet released details regarding the motive or the status of any suspects.
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau confirmed that officers responded to a home on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive at 7:32 p.m. ET on Sunday. Pau stated that a person was treated for serious injuries and transported to a medical facility, but authorities declined to disclose the victim’s identity at the time of the initial response.
Sources identified the injured party as Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. While the identity has been reported by media outlets, official police statements have strictly limited information to the nature of the injuries and the location of the incident.
At the time of the shooting, Eric Bieniemy was in St. Joseph, Missouri, attending the second practice of the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp at Missouri Western State University. The offensive coordinator rejoined the team earlier this year, having previously held the position from 2018 to 2022.
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a brief statement confirming they are aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family. The organisation provided no further details regarding the investigation or the condition of the victim, directing focus to the ongoing police inquiry.
