Chase and Jefferson lead ESPN’s 2026 NFL wide receiver rankings
Ja'Marr Chase secures the top spot despite finishing fourth in receiving yards, while Justin Jefferson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba round out the upper tier in ESPN’s annual assessment ahead of 2026 training camps.
ESPN has released its 2026 ranking of the top 10 NFL wide receivers, drawing on votes from more than 70 league executives, coaches, and scouts. The rankings, which evaluate performance during the 2025 season and current assessments ahead of 2026 training camps, place Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase at number one, followed by Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson. The list reflects a consensus among decision-makers that prioritises big-play potential and historical production over raw statistical totals from the previous year.
Chase secured the top position by capturing approximately 70% of first-place votes, despite finishing third in catches and fourth in receiving yards during the 2025 season. Evaluators highlighted his ability to generate explosive plays, noting that his 19 touchdowns of 40-plus yards were the most in the NFL. The ranking also recognised his versatility, with coaches noting his improved ability to operate both inside and outside, a trait that contributed to his 6,837 receiving yards over his first five seasons.
Jefferson ranked second, registering number one or number two votes on around 70% of ballots. Although he recorded a career-low 1,048 receiving yards in 2025, voters largely attributed this to poor quarterback play rather than a decline in skill. His 8,480 receiving yards remain the most for any player in his first six seasons in NFL history, and his 53.4% double-team percentage ranked first among receivers, underscoring his value as a focal point of the offence.
Seattle Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba entered the top 10 for the first time, having led the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards in 2025. His output accounted for 44% of the team’s receiving yards, the highest player share since 2012. Voters praised his smooth route running and low drop rate, though some noted that his alignment outside on more than 80% of his snaps was a new development that could elevate his status further if sustained.
Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua appeared on all but one ballot after leading the NFL with 129 catches in 2025. His consistency was a key factor, with a 77.2% catch rate and 668 yards after the catch leading all receivers. The list also included Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens, Houston Texans receiver Nico Collins, New England Patriots receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams, who rounded out the top 10.
The 2026 rankings highlight the depth of the position, with 26 players receiving at least one vote. Receiver trails only quarterback and edge rusher in pay scale, representing four of the top-12 highest-paid non-quarterbacks. The results suggest that teams continue to view wide receiver as a premier position, with evaluators placing significant weight on players who can stretch the field or provide reliable production in high-leverage situations.
