Chaminade Julienne Eagles target institutional recovery ahead of 100th season
Following a 1-9 record last season, the Chaminade Julienne Eagles enter their 100th combined year with a core group of statistical leaders returning, though the coaching staff remains cautious about the upcoming Greater Cincinnati League schedule.
The Chaminade Julienne Eagles are preparing for the 2025 high school football season with a focus on structural stability and player development rather than immediate championship contention. Head coach Marcus Colvin, entering his 13th year with the programme, has identified a significant roster turnover challenge following a 1-9 record in the previous campaign. However, the institution retains its primary statistical contributors, including senior quarterback Jaiven Manley, who recorded 757 passing yards and three touchdowns last season.
Colvin, who returned to the role after a three-year absence, noted that the team’s strategic focus began immediately following the conclusion of the previous season. The struggles of the 1-9 record have served as a motivational baseline for the current squad. Senior Jaiven Manley highlighted the maturity of the returning group, stating that a substantial number of players have grown into their roles and are prepared for increased responsibility. This continuity is critical, as the Eagles retain their statistical leaders in passing, receiving, scoring, kick returning, tackles, interceptions, and fumble recoveries.
The only area requiring significant personnel adjustment is rushing production. Despite this gap, the team retains the next three rushers from the previous year, including senior Triston McDonald Jr., who contributed 100 rushing yards last season. The senior leadership group also features Devon Wilcox and Nigel Hertz, the programme’s only two first-team All-GCL performers from the previous season. Their presence provides a stabilising influence as the team navigates a challenging pre-season schedule.
Coach Colvin has adopted a pragmatic approach to the upcoming fixtures, which include early matches against Withrow and Bishop Hartley before the Greater Cincinnati League (GCL) campaign begins. He explicitly rejected the notion of predicting victories, describing such claims as "idiotic" given the difficulty of the schedule. Instead, the institutional goal is to improve performance metrics and maintain player health to ensure availability for Friday night matches throughout the season.
The 2025 season holds historical significance for the programme, marking the 100th combined year of the football team following the 1973 merger of Chaminade and Julienne. The Eagles enter this centenary milestone with an all-time record of 570-389-26. While the immediate objective is to rebound from last season’s poor performance, the emphasis remains on building a sustainable framework for the future within the competitive GCL environment.
