CD Projekt Red announces new Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past
Third major DLC for the 2015 RPG to be co-developed with Fool's Theory

CD Projekt Red has officially announced Songs of the Past, the third full expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The studio confirmed the project via its official X account, revealing that the content will be co-developed with Polish studio Fool's Theory. The expansion is scheduled for release in 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.

The announcement arrived a day earlier than originally planned, preceding a celebratory livestream intended for the 10th anniversary of the previous DLC, Blood and Wine. In its post, the studio stated that the new content would take players back to the world of Geralt of Rivia. This marks the first major content update for the 2015 role-playing game since the release of Blood and Wine.

Fool's Theory is currently working on a remake of the original The Witcher. CD Projekt Red indicated that more information regarding the expansion would be revealed later in the summer. The studio did not provide specific details on the story content or gameplay features at this stage.

The release window for Songs of the Past raises questions regarding the development status of The Witcher 4. The sequel was shown in an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo last year, following a cinematic trailer at the 2024 Game Awards. It currently has no release date, and the focus on the 2015 title suggests a 2027 launch for the sequel is unlikely.

While the expansion is confirmed for PC and current-generation consoles, there is no mention of Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 in the initial announcement. CD Projekt Red was heavily involved in the launch of the Switch 2 with the port of Cyberpunk 2077, but it remains unclear if a version of The Witcher 3 will be released on those platforms.
