Castaignos’s late winner remains a brief Inter highlight
The 19-year-old striker scored in the 89th minute against Siena during Inter’s 2011–12 campaign, but made few further appearances for the club.
Luc Castaignos came off the bench to score Inter’s 89th-minute winner in a 1–0 victory over Siena during the 2011–12 season, a decisive moment in a short spell at the club.
Inter’s account, published by the club and carried by Yahoo Sports, says Castaignos replaced Mauro Zárate at half-time. Late in the match, he controlled a pass from Thiago Motta with his left foot and finished with his right.
Castaignos had joined Inter after scoring 15 Eredivisie goals for Feyenoord the previous season. At 19, he was among the forwards considered as the club changed managers from Gian Piero Gasperini to Claudio Ranieri.
The Siena goal did not lead to a regular place in the side. The account says Castaignos made few further appearances, including a return against Bologna in February, after which he received a three-match suspension for spitting towards an opponent.
