Carano weighs in for Netflix MMA debut against Rousey
Gina Carano and Ronda Rousey meet under the featherweight limit for the streaming giant’s first live MMA broadcast.

Gina Carano has officially weighed in for her highly anticipated mixed martial arts bout against Ronda Rousey, marking a significant return to the sport for the former pioneer. The 44-year-old stepped onto the scales on Friday, 15 May 2026, registering at 141.4 pounds, well below the featherweight non-title limit of 146 pounds. Rousey also cleared the weight requirement, coming in at 142 pounds, thereby confirming the main event for the upcoming weekend.
The contest is scheduled to headline the debut event for Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and will be broadcast live on Netflix. This bout represents the first time the streaming platform has aired a live MMA event, positioning the Carano-Rousey matchup as the cornerstone of the promotion’s inaugural launch.
Carano revealed that her preparation involved a substantial physical transformation, having lost 100 pounds since September 2024. In a social media post following the weigh-in, she disclosed that she was pre-diabetic and experienced difficulty walking at the start of her journey. She described the 20-month period as a process of "trial by error," noting significant plateaus and learning curves as she transitioned from a pre-diabetic state back into athletic conditioning.
The prospect of fighting Rousey served as the primary motivation for Carano’s weight loss. She expressed gratitude to Rousey for waiting patiently while she completed the necessary physical preparation. Carano, who retired from professional MMA in 2009 to pursue an acting career, cited the challenge of the upcoming bout as the catalyst for her recovery and transformation.
Carano’s return to the octagon follows a distinguished history in women’s MMA. In 2007, she and Julie Kedzie competed in the first women’s MMA fight televised on Showtime. Two years later, she and Cris Cyborg headlined a major Strikeforce event, marking the first time women headlined such a major promotion. Fans had long discussed a potential matchup between Carano and Rousey, but it has now been formalised for this historic broadcast.
The fight is set to take place on Saturday, with live coverage and round-by-round play-by-play provided by Uncrowned. Carano indicated that while she has achieved her immediate goal, she intends to continue focusing on health and fitness in the long term. The bout promises to be a central moment in the evolving landscape of combat sports broadcasting.
