Capcom is turning towards older game franchises after Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold more than one million copies on its first day, according to a statement reported by Engadget.

“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating IPs that haven't had a new title launch recently,” the company said in a press release cited by Engadget.

The statement does not identify which dormant franchises could receive new games. It marks a broader strategy of using Capcom’s existing catalogue to support the company’s corporate value, rather than confirming specific projects.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first new mainline entry in the series since 2006. Capcom is also developing an Okami sequel and Mega Man: Dual Override.

Dino Crisis, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Devil May Cry and Ace Attorney have been cited as possible candidates based on their release histories and recent activity, but none has been confirmed. Devil May Cry has sold 41 million copies, while Ace Attorney has sold 15 million, according to the source.
