Three-star safety targets Georgia, Alabama, and Georgia Tech before commitment

Elite defensive back recruit MJ Burnette has finalised the schedule for his official visits ahead of a planned college commitment announcement on 4 July. The three-star safety in the class of 2027 will visit Georgia Tech from 29 to 31 May, followed by Alabama from 5 to 7 June, and Georgia from 19 to 21 June.

Burnette, who plays for Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia, is ranked as the No. 57 recruit in the state and the No. 47 cornerback nationally, placing him within the top 500 recruits in the country. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound athlete also competes as a wide receiver, where his height allows him to win jump balls against opposing defenders.

While 247Sports projects Burnette as a cornerback at the collegiate level, his high school highlights have featured him primarily playing safety or receiver during his junior season. His physical attributes, including length and speed, are considered assets for the defensive back position.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart will have the final opportunity to pitch to Burnette during the visit scheduled for late June. The timing places the Bulldogs in a strong position to secure the recruit’s commitment after the visits to Georgia Tech and Alabama.

Burnette is the son of Morgan Burnette, a former Green Bay Packers defensive back who played college football at Georgia Tech. Morgan Burnette was previously an NFL teammate with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who currently serves as the director of player development at Alabama.

The recruitment process highlights the intersection of legacy and performance, with Burnette leveraging his family’s football background while establishing his own ranking among elite prospects. His decision on 4 July will determine which of the three programmes receives his commitment.
