Bulls restructure front office under Graham with key executive appointments

The Chicago Bulls are undertaking a significant restructuring of their front office under the direction of new executive vice-president of basketball operations, Bryson Graham. The organisation is finalising two vice-presidential appointments designed to create a more nimble and adaptive presence within the Eastern Conference.

Stephen Mervis has been hired as senior vice-president of basketball operations, a role that will report directly to Graham. The position functions similarly to the general manager role in previous iterations of the front office, establishing Mervis as the second-in-command. Mervis previously served as assistant general manager for the Orlando Magic, where he built a reputation over the last 12 years as a salary-cap strategist with a strong understanding of trade valuation and roster building.

Acie Law IV has been appointed vice-president of player personnel. Law brings extensive experience from his recent tenure as director of player personnel for the Brooklyn Nets and his five-year stint as scouting director for the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he won a championship ring in the 2024-25 season. Law, 41, also has a prior connection to the Bulls, having played 12 games for the team during the 2009-10 season.

The appointments highlight a strategic alignment between Graham and Law, who were college teammates at Texas A&M, overlapping for two years. Mervis is described as an experienced executive just under 40, mirroring Graham’s profile as a leader waiting for a breakout role. Both hires reflect Graham’s focus on improving the team’s ability to identify, acquire, and develop talent.

These structural changes come as the Bulls prepare for the upcoming NBA draft, holding two first-round and two second-round picks. The front-office rebuild is expected to continue with the hiring of a new head coach and a broader restructuring of the coaching staff in the coming weeks.
