Analyst Will Hill argues that the +190 odds offered for the team to win the division represent significant value, particularly given the current state of the division.
This assessment comes despite the Buccaneers starting the 2026 season with a 0-1 record. Hill notes that the team is currently listed as a 9-point favourite for their upcoming Week 2 fixture, suggesting an immediate return to form is likely. The previous campaign saw Tampa Bay begin strongly with a 6-2 record, only to slide after quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a shoulder injury in November, resulting in an 8-9 finish.
The division is described as wide open, with no single team holding a clear advantage. The Atlanta Falcons are viewed as unlikely contenders due to ongoing instability at the quarterback position. Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers, who won the division last year, are underperforming despite their title win, having finished under .500 and being outscored by 69 points overall.
The New Orleans Saints, who were considered a trendy pick entering the season, are also struggling. They are currently 0-1 and face an 8-point underdog status in their Week 2 match against the Ravens. Recent roster moves, including the trade of linebacker Deion Jones to the 49ers for running back Zamir White, have been aimed at addressing depth issues but have not yet translated to on-field success.
Hill’s analysis highlights that while the Buccaneers lost to the Bengals last week, the game remained competitive until late. The team suffered from four fumbles, all recovered by Cincinnati, one of which was returned for a touchdown. However, the underlying performance suggests the team remains competitive within the division.
With the Falcons, Panthers, and Saints all facing distinct challenges, the Buccaneers’ recent history of dominance in the NFC South makes them the logical choice for those looking to wager on the division winner.
