Betting the Buccaneers in 2026: See how Tampa Bay's win total, Super Bowl odds are trending and our best bets
CBS Sports analysis highlights significant shifts in Tampa Bay’s betting odds following a playoff miss and key departures.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ prospects for the 2026 NFL season have come under intense scrutiny following a 2025 campaign that ended with an 8-9 record and a failure to reach the playoffs. According to a recent preview by CBS Sports, the team’s four-year streak of division titles was broken when the Carolina Panthers secured the NFC South title via tiebreaker after sweeping the Atlanta Falcons. The Buccaneers’ collapse was particularly stark, as they lost seven of their nine games following their bye week, including narrow defeats to each division rival by four points or fewer during Weeks 14 to 16.

The shift in sentiment is largely driven by significant roster changes, most notably the departure of long-standing stars Mike Evans and Lavonte David. Cornerback Jamel Dean, who graded third among his peers in 2025 according to PFF, is also no longer on the roster. These losses have prompted a recalibration in betting markets, with the win total shifting from a favourite to go over 8.5 wins to a favourite for the under. This adjustment suggests that the market now views a playoff miss as more likely than not, despite the franchise’s consistency of eight or more wins in each of the previous six years.

Defensive metrics from the 2025 season further underscore the challenges ahead. The Buccaneers finished last in the division in yards per play on defence and recorded the worst red-zone defence in the league. Their point differential of minus-31 marked the second time in six years they allowed more points than they scored. In response, the organisation has focused on bolstering the front seven, signing Alex Anzalone, Al-Quadin Muhammad, and A'Shawn Robinson, while selecting Rueben Bain and Josiah Trotter in the draft.

Off the field, the 2026 schedule presents a structural advantage, marking the first time since 2022 that the team avoids a first-place divisional slate. Instead of facing the Seahawks, Eagles, and Broncos, Tampa Bay will play the Rams, Cowboys, and Chargers. The schedule also avoids back-to-back road games, with the most demanding travel scenario being a short-rest Thursday night trip to Dallas. However, analysts note that the overall quality of the roster appears diminished compared to the previous year, raising questions about whether schedule ease can offset on-field deficits.

While the Buccaneers remain favourites to win the NFC South, some betting strategies suggest targeting the other three divisional teams to secure the title, given the low probability of a wild-card spot emerging from the group. The Week 1 matchup against Cincinnati is identified as a critical early test of competitiveness. Analysts recommend monitoring this game closely to inform betting positions for subsequent matches, such as the Week 2 encounter with Cleveland or the Week 9 trip to Chicago, where opportunities for negative plays may arise.
