Broncos transition to full pads as Payton manages injury list on Day 7
Head coach Sean Payton oversees the Denver’s move to full-contact sessions, with Nik Bonitto and Courtland Sutton participating fully, while Jaylen Waddle remains on a limited workload.

The Denver Broncos advanced to Day 7 of their publicly open training camp at Broncos Park in Centennial, Colorado, on 7 August 2026, marking a significant shift in the preparation schedule as the team transitioned to full-pad drills. Head coach Sean Payton addressed the media following the session, overseeing a practice environment that required players to adjust to increased physical contact after days of non-padded work.
Pass rusher Nik Bonitto and wide receiver Courtland Sutton were among the key performers who engaged in full pads and walkthroughs during the session. Bonitto, who is ranked number 32 on the NFL’s Top 100 players list, participated fully alongside Sutton, signalling a positive progression for the team’s defensive and offensive cores as they enter the contact phase of camp.
In contrast, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle participated in a limited capacity due to a leg strain. Waddle was observed wearing only a jersey and shorts, though he was seen jogging and wearing a sleeve on his affected leg. Payton had previously indicated that Waddle might return within four or five days, though the exact timeline remains an estimate rather than a confirmed medical clearance date.
Other roster members showed varying degrees of activity and recovery. Offensive lineman Luke Wattenberg made steady progress on the side field while remaining in jersey and shorts, and wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr returned to practice after receiving attention from a trainer at the conclusion of the previous day’s session. Wide receiver Pat Bryant also made notable plays in practice while Waddle was sidelined.
The Broncos are scheduled to have a day off on Sunday, providing a break following the intensified contact drills. Several players, including cornerbacks Sean Fresch and Jaden Robinson, tight end Caleb Lohner, and linebackers Dasan McCullough and Jordan Turner, were noted as absent or not fully dressed for the session.
