Brighton squad funds ticket refunds for 407 fans ahead of Tromso qualifier

Brighton & Hove Albion have taken an institutional step to support their travelling supporters ahead of Thursday’s Europa Conference League qualifier against Tromso. The squad has collectively funded ticket refunds for 407 fans heading to Romssa Arena in northern Norway, a gesture designed to acknowledge the logistical challenges posed by the short notice of the fixture.

Captain Lewis Dunk addressed the media regarding the decision, noting that supporters did not know their destination until the final minute. Dunk stated that the group wanted to make a gesture to start the season well for the fans, with the club also arranging for scarves and t-shirts to be issued to the travelling supporters.

Manager Fabian Hurzeler framed the upcoming match as a critical opportunity for the club, describing it as the reward for the resilience shown throughout the previous season. He emphasised the need to finish the work by being successful in the two qualifying games, highlighting the importance of the occasion for the squad.

Tactical preparations have focused on Tromso’s playing style, with Hurzeler describing the opponents’ pressing as very impressive. In contrast, Dunk downplayed the impact of Tromso’s artificial pitch, suggesting that the majority of the squad grew up playing on similar surfaces and that the ball would move quickly if the pitch is watered.

Selection remains a key focus, with several players facing injury concerns. Carlos Baleba, Kaoru Mitoma, and Stefanos Tzimas are listed as doubtful starters, while Yankuba Minteh is confirmed out. The absence of these players opens the door for new signings Pascal Struijk, Luka Vuskovic, and Promise David to potentially feature in the starting lineup.
