Brewers edge Athletics in record-breaking 12-inning marathon at Las Vegas Ballpark
A 15-14 victory for Milwaukee featured 11 home runs and 16 overturned umpire calls, marking a chaotic introduction to the Las Vegas fanbase ahead of the team’s 2028 move.

The Milwaukee Brewers secured a 15-14 victory over the Oakland Athletics in a 12-inning, 154-minute contest at Las Vegas Ballpark on June 9, 2026. The match, which featured 34 hits and 11 home runs, served as a preliminary introduction to the Las Vegas fanbase for the Athletics, who are scheduled to relocate to the city in 2028. The game concluded with Brice Turang’s fielder’s choice grounder in the 12th inning scoring Christian Yelich for the winning run.
The contest was marked by significant officiating irregularities, with home plate umpire Clint Vondrak having 11 of 16 ball-and-strike challenges overturned. According to Umpire Scorecards, Vondrak also missed three other calls that potentially impacted the outcome. Brewers manager Pat Murphy described the event as the most bizarre he had experienced in 11 years, citing the unprecedented volume of challenges.
Offensive production was high from the outset, with Shea Langeliers hitting a 483-foot home run in the first inning, marking the first pitch to an Athletics player in Las Vegas. The Athletics held a two-run lead entering the ninth inning, but Andrew Vaughn’s two-run double with no outs sent the game into extra innings. Milwaukee responded with four runs in the 10th, while Oakland matched the effort with four runs of their own, including two-out home runs by Nick Kurtz and Jonah Heim.
The Athletics distributed jerseys with "VEGAS" on the back and the number 28 to fans during the event, signalling their future identity. The club is scheduled to move to a new $2 billion, 33,000-person capacity domed stadium on the Strip in 2028. This series at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the Athletics’ Triple-A affiliate, is part of a broader effort to introduce the franchise to its eventual home city before the full relocation.
Statistically, the game represented a rare occurrence for both clubs. The Brewers improved to 2-88 in games where they allowed at least 14 runs, their first such victory since August 2019. For the Athletics, it was the first time since May 2000 that they were involved in a game where both teams scored at least 14 runs. The Athletics will host the Colorado Rockies in a three-game series next, continuing their introduction to the Las Vegas market.
