Head coach Keith Andrews cites Duff’s detailed approach and shared history with the national team as key factors in the appointment.

Brentford has confirmed the appointment of Damien Duff as first-team assistant coach for the upcoming 2026-27 Premier League season. The former Republic of Ireland international arrives at the London club following a successful managerial stint with Shelbourne, where he secured the League of Ireland Premier Division title in 2024.
Head coach Keith Andrews welcomed the addition to his staff, emphasising a long-standing professional relationship with Duff. Andrews noted that the two have known each other for years, having attended coaching courses together and served alongside one another within the Republic of Ireland national team setup.
Andrews highlighted Duff’s specific attributes as a primary driver for the decision, citing his experience, presence, and a detail-oriented approach to coaching. The head coach stated that Duff would bring a high level of scrutiny to the coaching department and integrate into the existing group, expressing satisfaction with the appointment.
Duff’s recent managerial record includes leading Shelbourne to the top tier of Irish football. Prior to his success in Ireland, he held various coaching roles at Celtic and Shamrock Rovers, building a resume that spans both club and international levels.
The appointment marks a significant step in Duff’s transition from player to coach, as he prepares to support Brentford’s campaign in the Premier League. The specific terms of his contract beyond the 2026-27 season have not been disclosed.
