Brazil secure Group C title with 3-0 victory over Scotland
Neymar returns from three-year absence as Brazil defeat Scotland 3-0 in Miami to clinch top spot in World Cup Group C.

Brazil have secured top spot in World Cup Group C following a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Scotland at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The result, confirmed by the presence of 64,478 spectators, ensures Brazil finish the group stage with seven points, placing them ahead of Morocco, who secured second place after defeating Haiti 4-2.
Vinicius Junior was the primary architect of the win, scoring two goals to bring his tournament tally to four. His first came in the seventh minute after a defensive error by Scotland allowed him to tap the ball into an empty net. He added a second just before the half-time break, heading home a cross from Bruno Guimaraes. Guimaraes was instrumental throughout, providing two assists for Brazil’s goals, including the third goal scored by Matheus Cunha in the 60th minute.
The match was not without controversy for the South American side. Vinicius Junior had a potential second goal in the 22nd minute disallowed by the referee following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, which determined a foul had occurred in the build-up. Despite the setback, Brazil maintained control, with Scotland failing to register a single shot on target in the first half.
Scotland manager Stephen Clark’s side struggled to impose themselves on the game, particularly in the final third. Brazil goalkeeper Alisson remained a solid presence, denying Scotland a late chance in the dying moments to preserve the clean sheet. The victory marks a significant milestone for Vinicius Junior, who has now scored in every group game of the tournament, a feat last achieved by a Brazilian at the World Cup in 2002 by Ronaldo and Rivaldo.
The match also marked the return of Neymar to the Brazil squad after a three-year absence. The 34-year-old came on as a substitute in the second half, receiving a warm reception from the crowd. His appearance provided a symbolic conclusion to a match that saw Brazil demonstrate the tactical discipline required to navigate the group stage successfully.
With the win, Vinicius Junior finds himself level with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot, sitting just one goal behind the current leader, Lionel Messi. Brazil’s progression to the knockout stages in first place sets up a favourable path forward, having navigated the challenges of Group C with a blend of attacking prowess and defensive resilience.
