The Toronto Blue Jays ended a dominant nine-game winning streak for the Boston Red Sox with a 2-1 victory on Monday night, marking the Red Sox’s third consecutive defeat. The loss brings an abrupt close to a period of sustained success for Boston, which had previously set a franchise record with 27 wins in 30 games.
Charles McAdoo provided the decisive offensive contribution, hitting a lead-off home run in the fifth inning. The 24-year-old rookie, making his first start at third base after teammate Kazuma Okamoto withdrew late due to a bruised left knee, recorded his second major league home run in just nine career games.
On the mound, Jameson Taillon started for Toronto, delivering four scoreless innings before exiting with forearm discomfort. Taillon surrendered one hit and walked three batters in what was his second start for the Blue Jays and his first at home since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs in a trade on 2 August.
Simeon Woods-Richardson took over in the fifth inning and earned the win after allowing one run over three innings of relief, improving his record to 2-7. Louis Varland closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning, securing his 25th save of the season.
For Boston, starter Sonny Gray pitched six innings, allowing two runs and six hits. The loss drops Gray’s win-loss record to 14-3 for the season, shifting the momentum in the divisional matchup.
