Developer behind Silent Hill 2 remake reveals mature psychological action-adventure featuring Ro Laren

Bloober Team, the studio known for its work on the Silent Hill 2 remake, has officially announced Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a new interactive title scheduled for release on PC and consoles in 2027. The developer describes the project as a mature psychological action-adventure, although early teaser footage has led to widespread characterisation of the game as a horror title.

The narrative centres on Ro Laren, a character originally introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation, with original actor Michelle Forbes returning to voice the role. In the game, Laren crash-lands on a distant planet that has been overtaken by a strange consciousness. The plot requires her to navigate a corrupted labyrinth while confronting her own troubled past and attempting to survive the environment.

According to the official description, the more Laren uncovers about the planet, the deeper she is pulled into a reality where her memories twist and the world threatens to sever her connection to truth. The developer states that she must solve the mysteries of this strange world to make peace with her past, boldly going into what has been described as the heart of darkness.

The announcement is expected to generate significant discussion within the Star Trek fanbase, given the departure from the franchise’s traditional tones. While Bloober Team has not explicitly labelled the game as horror, the atmospheric elements presented in the teaser video suggest a darker direction for the franchise’s interactive media.

A Steam page for Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is now live, allowing users to wishlist the title ahead of its 2027 launch window. The developer has not yet specified an exact release date within that year.
