Blizzard announces StarCraft open-world shooter for 2030
Blizzard has unveiled a story-driven open-world shooter titled StarCraft at BlizzCon 2026, but the planned release remains nearly four years away.

Blizzard has announced a new StarCraft game described as a “story-driven open-world shooter”, marking a shift from the series’ established top-down real-time strategy format.
The announcement at BlizzCon 2026 was accompanied by a cinematic trailer. Blizzard has given spring 2030 as the planned release window, with no precise date, platforms, pricing or gameplay details provided.
The project follows a long period of speculation about a StarCraft shooter. Blizzard previously attempted to develop StarCraft: Ghost, which entered development in 2002 before being cancelled in 2014.
The announcement comes 16 years after the release of StarCraft II and nearly a decade after the original StarCraft was remastered in 2017, according to Engadget.
The game is officially titled StarCraft in the supplied material, rather than StarCraft 3. Its spring 2030 window is a plan and may change during development.
