Bisping predicts Makhachev dominance in UFC 330 welterweight title clash

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has forecast a decisive victory for Islam Makhachev in the upcoming welterweight title bout against Ian Machado Garry. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Bisping outlined a tactical breakdown suggesting that Makhachev’s grappling prowess will dismantle Garry’s striking strategy at UFC 330.

The championship contest is scheduled to take place at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Makhachev, currently ranked as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, enters the bout as a heavy favourite. A successful title retention would extend his winning streak to 17 fights, surpassing Anderson Silva for the longest winning streak in UFC history.

Bisping identified takedown defence as the critical metric for the fight. He argued that while Garry is likely to employ a game plan involving movement and jabbing, Makhachev’s ability to cut off the cage and pin his opponent against the fence would render those efforts ineffective. According to Bisping, the specific dynamics of wrestling against the fence present a unique challenge that Garry may struggle to overcome.

The former champion drew comparisons to previous opponents, noting that while fighters like Dustin Poirier have managed to stuff takedowns in open space, Makhachev’s effectiveness increases significantly when he controls the perimeter. Bisping predicted that once Makhachev secures a leg grab against the fence, he would take Garry’s back and secure a rear-naked choke.

UFC 330 features two world title bouts on the card. In the co-main event, women’s strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern will defend her belt against No. 4 ranked contender Gillian Robertson. The sixth and final episode of the UFC 330 Embedded series was released on 15 August, providing final preparation highlights for the fighters ahead of the Saturday event.
