Big Ten baseball tournament 2026: Schedule, scores, and more
UCLA enters as top seed while lower-bracket teams battle for single-elimination spots

The 2026 Big Ten baseball tournament commenced on Tuesday in Omaha, utilising a hybrid competition structure that divides the field into distinct stages. The event features an initial double-elimination phase for seeds five to twelve, with the winners advancing to join the top four seeds in a single-elimination bracket. UCLA enters the tournament as the number one seed with a 48-6 record, alongside Nebraska, Oregon, and USC.

The tournament format requires eight teams seeded No. 5 through No. 12 to compete in double-elimination play. These teams are split into two brackets of four. One bracket features Purdue, Michigan State, Iowa, and Illinois, while the other includes Michigan, Rutgers, Ohio State, and Washington. The outcomes of these matches will determine the four qualifiers who will join the top seeds in the subsequent single-elimination stage.

Early results from Tuesday’s double-elimination games saw No. 12 Michigan State defeat No. 5 Purdue 8-4, and No. 8 Iowa beat No. 9 Illinois 10-6. Four further double-elimination games are scheduled for Tuesday, with the winners of those contests advancing to the single-elimination stage alongside the top four seeds.

UCLA, holding the number one seed with a 48-6 record, leads the field alongside Nebraska, Oregon, and USC. The Bruins finished the regular season with a 48-6 overall record and a 28-2 Big Ten mark, winning all 14 of their weekend series. They are the first team in D1Baseball.com history to go wire-to-wire in the No. 1 spot.

Nebraska and Oregon also present strong challenges. Nebraska finished second in the Big Ten with 41 wins, including a school-record 23 conference victories, and has won the last two Big Ten tournaments. Oregon is one of just two teams to beat UCLA this season and recently secured a dramatic 6-5 extra-innings win over USC.

The single-elimination bracket is set to begin on Friday, May 22, with USC facing the winner of the Michigan State-Iowa matchup, and UCLA taking on the winner of the Purdue-Illinois game. Nebraska and Oregon will also enter the single-elimination stage to compete for the conference title.
