Bentley previews Torcal as its first electric vehicle
The 2027 Torcal is planned to deliver more than 800 horsepower, over 370 miles of range and 400kW charging, while pairing Bentley craftsmanship with a simulated V8 soundtrack.
Bentley has previewed the 2027 Torcal, its first electric vehicle, ahead of an official debut expected later this month. The luxury SUV shares a platform with the electrified Porsche Cayenne within Volkswagen Auto Group and is smaller than Bentley’s existing Bentayga.
The preview, reported by The Verge after a ride in a heavily camouflaged pre-production vehicle, highlighted a smooth, specially tuned air-suspension system and progressive throttle calibration. Bentley is positioning the Torcal as a luxury vehicle shaped as much by craftsmanship as by electric performance.
Planned output is more than 800 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. Bentley is targeting range above 370 miles, charging at up to 400kW and a 10–80 per cent charge in under 20 minutes. Battery capacity, final output, charging performance, range and kerb weight have not been finalised.
The Torcal will use simulated audio inspired by Bentley’s 1980s V8-powered Turbo R. The sound incorporates recorded drum beats rather than a combustion engine, and remains under development. Bentley says the audio is intended to provide occupants with cues linked to the vehicle’s torque delivery.
Interior plans include recyclable natural-fibre door cards, a Merino-wool option and digital displays inspired by hand-cut crystal. Bentley also says its Crewe plant is pursuing solar power and other renewable practices. Pricing has not been announced.
