BC Tauragė Secures First American Signing for LKL Debut Season
The club announced the signing of Jackson on Sunday, marking the first time a player from the United States has been added to the roster for the team’s entry into the Lithuanian Basketball League.
BC Tauragė has officially signed former Iowa State guard Donovan Jackson for its inaugural season in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL), the club announced on Sunday. The move represents a significant step for the Tauragė-based organisation as it prepares for its debut in the country’s top-tier professional competition.
Jackson becomes the first player from the United States to join the BC Tauragė roster for this historic campaign. Team officials indicated in their press release that the guard was recruited to bolster the squad’s ball control and perimeter shooting capabilities, assets deemed critical for the club’s transition into the LKL.
During his collegiate career at Iowa State University, Jackson played two seasons, establishing himself as a consistent offensive threat. In his senior season of 2017-18, he started 30 games, averaging 15.0 points, 2.1 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game. He recorded 95 three-pointers that year, the fifth-most in a single season in school history, while shooting 40.1 per cent from beyond the arc.
His collegiate tenure included a notable performance in his junior season, where he hit a game-clinching three-pointer in overtime to end the University of Kansas’ 51-game home winning streak. This display of clutch performance under pressure likely contributed to his professional profile as he transitioned to the senior level.
Jackson began his professional career in the Czech Republic during the 2018-19 season. Since then, he has played in Greece, Poland, Estonia, and Mexico, appearing in competitions such as the FIBA Europe Cup, VTB League, and FIBA Champions League qualifiers. In the 2020-21 season, he played for Polski Cukier Toruń in Poland, where he averaged 18.3 points and 4.3 assists while shooting 41.1 per cent on three-pointers.
Most recently, Jackson appeared in five games for Kolossos Rhodes in the Greek top league, averaging 7.8 points. He concluded that stint with a standout performance, scoring 30 points in his final game of the season against Aris. His arrival in Tauragė marks the latest chapter in a career that has spanned multiple European leagues and international competitions.
