Sport Bild reports club is testing market for left-back, contingent on outgoing sales

Bayern Munich is navigating a complex transfer landscape ahead of the World Cup, with reports indicating the club is actively testing the market for left-back reinforcements. According to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, any incoming defensive signings are strictly contingent on the sale of existing players, specifically targeting Hiroki Ito or Alphonso Davies. Ito is valued at approximately €20 million, while the club is reportedly hoping for a significant offer from Saudi Arabia for Davies.

The potential departure of Davies has been linked to concerns over his injury record, though Falk noted it may be premature for the club to cut ties. If the club cannot secure a sale for Davies or Ito, incoming transfers will not proceed. This strategy also impacts interest in Manchester City’s Joško Gvardiol, who is capable of playing at left-back and centre-back. Gvardiol has publicly stated he is content at City and not focusing on transfer rumours, despite reports from The Athletic’s Sam Lee that Bayern still holds interest in the defender.

In the attacking sector, FC Barcelona is reportedly considering Harry Kane as an alternative target following the departure of Robert Lewandowski. Although Kane’s previous €65 million release clause has expired, Bayern Munich is open to starting negotiations at €80 million. The 32-year-old striker is said to be interested in a move to Camp Nou, though his current contract runs through the end of the 2026/27 season.

Bayern is also linked to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown as a potential replacement. Meanwhile, the club has shown interest in Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, but Real Madrid has reportedly reached a verbal agreement for the defender, pending the re-election of Florentino Pérez. Konaté had previously put Saudi bids on hold for the Spanish club.

On the domestic front, contract extension talks between Bayern Munich and midfielder Konrad Laimer are progressing positively. Falk confirmed that both parties wish to finalise a new deal, though it may not be completed before the World Cup. Laimer joked during an interview that his price might increase if Austria wins the tournament, highlighting the amicable relationship between the player and the club.
